One of the onnagata (female-role specialist) of the new generation of kabuki, Takataro has inherited the legacy of Kamigata Kabuki. His acting style is considered graceful, refined, classic as well as skillful. He has received critical acclaim for his performance of princess and young-female roles, but recently he has also started attracting audiences with his performance of traditional strong-female roles including the caring housewife, warrior woman and other jidaimono (history play) characters. In his portrayal of handsome young men, Takataro expresses an enigmatic sensuality.
In developing his career as an actor, he has appeared in several movies and TV dramas, including Emperor (2013, Dir. Peter Weber) as Emperor Showa, Chiisai Ouchi (2014, Dir. Yamada Yoji), Shiroi Kyoto and NHK Taiga Dramas Taiheiki and Sanada Taiheiki.
